This duo from the Blue Mountains are well adored. Since their inception years ago, Hermitude have been making progressive beats for an ever-growing fan base. Elke Giroux spoke to them about some of their most recent projects and Dr. Seuss.
HyperParadise has been a boomin’ success, can you tell us a bit about that album as a whole?
It's been one of the funest records to make because we just came into the studio everyday, put the kettle on, turned on our synths and wrote whatever we wanted! Parramatta rd is right outside our window so the constant traffic and buzz from outside probably helped inject some energy into it also. We set the challenge to ourselves of writing a completely instrumental album that was memorable and that people could sing along with even without big vocal hooks and we're really happy with how it finished up.
And HyperParadise just got nominated for Best IndependentDance/Electronica album at this years AIR awards, how does that feel?
It's an amazing feeling being recognized by such a staple in the independent records scene and we're honoured to be mentioned. We'll be performing at the awards night too so we're doubly stoked!
You’ve got a really intriguing project coming up with Elefant Traks cross DR. Seuss!?
Indeed. Mixing the incredible surrealist visuals of Dr Seuss with a rich musical bed supplied by Elefant traks... What can I say, it's going to a collaboration like no other. Not only is it special that we're privileged enough to play on stage with the visuals of Dr Seuss, but it's also bringing together a lot of the artists on elefant traks in a really unique way to produce something none of us have done before. Definitely a few childhood dreams being realized.
What else is coming up soon with Elefant Traks?
Urthboys record Smokey's Haunt is about to drop and it's gunna blow peoples minds. We had the pleasure of working side by side with Urthboy and Count Bounce on this project and the creativity in the room on these sessions was astounding! We all worked really fast and ideas were thrown around constantly and then you had Urthboy running in and out of the booth writing all the verses and choruses at the same time that we were writing the music! Mad times.
What do you guys expect from Festival Of The Sun?
Sun I guess is a good start. Haha nah we just know we're headed up the coast to play a great festival with some amazing other acts and we just ask people to bring their dancing shoes and good vibes so we can all have a mad party together.
Will you be whipping out any fresh tracks soon for us all?
Well we just dropped our remix of The Presets which has been well received and we got a couple more remix suprises droppin soon so keep a look out
So you recently remixed something for The Presets can you tell us about that?
Yes. They asked us to remix their second single ghosts for them to which we of course replied "yes!" We've been fans for a while. When we first listened to the track it took us a bit by surprise as it sounded like a shift in sound for them. We both really warmed to the track straight away though and we wanted to flip it in a way that wasn't too obvious. We've really been feeling that TNGHT EP that hud mo and lunice dropped recently so we decided to toy with that sound a bit and flip it into like a club/trap type remix.
And lastly, whatever will you guys be doing next?
We're just Hungary to write more beats really. Once our touring schedule quietens down, we'll be back behind the boards writin.
Catch Hermitude at Festival Of The Sun this December in Port Macquarie.
